Clavija lehmannii is a spectacular and very rare, palm-like, sparsely branched shrub or small tree to about 4 m tall, native to tropical forests in the western Andes of Colombia between 800 and 1300 m with long, undivided leaves and golfball-sized, round, orange fruits. The fruits grow directly on the stem and contain a creamy, sweet, edible and delicious pulp between a few large seeds. Clavija lehmannii makes an outstanding ornamental and fruit tree for the tropics and some warm temperate regions as it is tolerant of cool conditions but not of freezes.
