General Information:
Small slender tree, usually no more than 2 meters, Native to South Tropical America.
Provides an edible fruit, usually gathered from the wild, sometimes cultivated in home gardens.
The edible fruit is 1 cm in diameter with a sweet creamy pulp, Excellent for container growing.
Medicinal Uses:
The roots are used as an antidote.
A decoction, taken internally and applied topically, is used in the treatment of poisonous animals.
Combined with the fruit of annatto (Bixa Orellana) and the fruit peel of assai (Euterpe spp.), it is used in the treatment of jaundice.
Other Uses:
The wood is light yellowish-brown, heavy, hard, and somewhat durable.
