General Information: Native to South America. Surinam cherries present small, ovate to rounded fruits with a vibrant range of colors, transitioning from green to red-blue and crimson upon ripening. When fully ripe, Surinam cherries offer a delicately earthy, sweet-tart flavor, making them a delightful treat for tropical fruit enthusiasts.

Planting and Care

Place Surinam Cherry plant in Full sun to part shade. The plant appreciates a bright position, but can tolerate lower light conditions if necessary. If placed outdoors in summer, it can usually tolerate full sun, although partial shade is recommended in the hottest areas.

These cherries are rich in the antioxidants beta-cryptoxanthin, lycopene, gamma-carotene, and rubixanthin. When sprinkled with sugar, it releases its juice. Surinam cherries are rich sources of antioxidants and therefore rich in vitamins. These antioxidants fight free radicals formed in the body and reverse the damaging actions of free radicals.
