Pourouma guianensis Live Plant

Pourouma guianensis is an evergreen tree with a sparse, open crown; it can grow 10 - 15 metres tall. This fast growing tree is native to S. America - Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Surinam. The tree produces violet-black, ovoid drupes measuring 20–40 mm in diameter, each containing a single seed. These fruits are edible and consumed locally. The wood of Pourouma guianensis is light, soft, and used for low-value items such as boxes, toys, and toothpicks. Due to its rapid growth and adaptability, it is also utilized in reforestation and agroforestry projects.
