Plant Type

The paper mulberry is a species of flowering tree in the family Moraceae. It is native to East and Southeast Asia, including mainland China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Korea, Myanmar and Taiwan. It is widely cultivated elsewhere as an introduced species in New Zealand, parts of Europe, the United States, and Africa.

Edible PartsThe Fruit: The ripe, fuzzy orange or red outer parts of the fruit cluster are sweet and juicy. You should only eat the fleshy, frilly outer parts and avoid the green unpollinated core/inside, which can leave an unpleasant, bitter taste. The Leaves: Young leaf shoots are edible, but they must be cooked (boiled, steamed, or sautéed) before eating. Eating raw leaves or unripened parts can cause irritation or act as a mild laxative due to the plant's sap
