Vasconcellea parviflora is a deciduous shrub growing 50 - 200cm tall. This dwarf papaya species is native to the dry western slopes of Peru. It is highly sought after by bonzai collectors for its small size, thick swollen trunk and great beauty. Some of this plant’s hallmark features are its hot pink flowers and bright orange, tangerine tasting fruits. V. parviflora is strictly male/ female. It requires a mild and dry winter and it goes dormant from cold and from drought. These trees definitely stay small but in a large pot will reach at least 3 or 4 feet.
