Evergreen shrub or tree, Melastomataceae Family. Native to South America - Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Venezuela, Guyana, French Guiana. Usually grows 4 - 10 meters tall.
Provides an edible fruit for the local population. Orange-red, globose fruits are 25mm in diameter. Fruit typically eaten raw. Has a sweet, juicy pulp with 1 to 3 seeds inside. Prefers a sunny position for better growth
