Common Name: Limoncillo, also known as Mexican Mangosteen.

Botanical Name: Luc's, Garcinia Mexicana.

General Information: This Garcinia species is native to Mexico. It was introduced to fruit growers via Luc Vleeracker. This slow-growing tree appreciates shade during the first couple of years.

It bears medium-sized fruits that ripen to an orange-yellow color. The fruit is reported to be of excellent quality, with both sweet and lemony-tart components.

The fruit has a relatively small seed, providing a considerable amount of flesh. This tropical fruit is also known as the Malabar tamarind.

It is a popular weight-loss supplement. Some people believe it can block the body's ability to make fat and reduce appetite. Weight loss may help manage blood sugar and cholesterol levels.

The fruit is astringent and acidic. It's a drug that's used to treat dysentery. The seeds are used to make medications that are applied externally. Gamboge is a gum-resin derived from the bark, branches, and fruits of the tree. Gamboge has been utilised as a hydragogue-cathartic in western medicine, although it is no longer widely used.
