Mama cadela is a deciduous shrub or small tree, growing from 2 - 8 metres tall. They are native to S. America - Paraguay, central, eastern and northern Brazil, Bolivia. The edible fruits are gathered from the wild and consumed locally. They are generally greatly enjoyed. The fruits are usually eaten raw it has a fibrous, succulent pulp with a sweet, very pleasant flavour. The fruits are around 4cm in diameter and the juice is sweet and sticky and can be chewed much like gum. The plant prefers a sunny position for its better grwoth.
