Leonia cf. crassa is a native and wild tree found in Antioquia and Bolívar, growing at elevations between 600 and 1500 meters above sea level. While reported in these northern regions, this species is also known to occur in the southern parts of the country, including the Orinoquia, Amazon, Macarena, and Guayana regions.
The fruits are sweet, with a flavor similar to Matisia chordata. They can be easily enjoyed fresh when they turn yellow, indicating ripeness.
