Jungle Plum (Sideroxylon obtusifolium) is a thorny, deciduous or semi-deciduous shrub or a tree that usually grows from 7 - 10 metres tall. The tree produces small black to purple fruits, about 15mm in diameter, which are incredibly sweet and succulent. The pulp is juicy and sugary, making the fruit a favorite snack among locals who often eat it straight from the tree. The skin is completely edible and has no negative effect on the flavor. While the fruit contains a bit of latex, it’s a minor detail—the taste makes it absolutely worth it.
