The Jardalu mango (also spelled Zardalu) is a highly celebrated, premium cultivar primarily grown in the Bhagalpur, Banka, and Munger districts of Bihar, India. Steeped in royal heritage, this variety is said to have been introduced in the early 19th century by Maharaja Rahmat Ali Khan Bahadur. Recognizing its exceptional, localized traits, it was granted the prestigious Geographical Indication (GI) tag in 2018. The fruit is visually distinct for its light, bright golden-yellow skin when fully ripe, wrapping a medium-sized, slightly oblong shape that typically weighs between 150 to 250 grams.

What truly sets the Jardalu mango apart is its extraordinary sensory profile and signature intoxicating aroma, which can easily fill a room even before the fruit is peeled. The delicate, thin skin encases a rich, saffron-colored pulp that is completely fiberless and boasts an ultra-creamy, melt-in-the-mouth texture. Its flavor profile is intensely sweet with a subtle, refreshing tang and a unique hint of apricot-like and spicy undertones. Ripening early in the season—usually from mid-May to June—this prized variety has captured global attention, prompting successful international exports and cementing its status as an elite choice for both fresh consumption and commercial propagation.
