Willughbeia coriacea is an evergreen climber growing to 30 m long at a fast rate. The woody shoots attach themselves to other plants for support by means of hooked, leafless branchlets. A latex obtained from the plant is of good quality. The plant was at one time cultivated for this latex, which was used to produce rubber, but with the growing popularity of the Brazilian rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis) and the advent of synthetic rubber, the use of this plant dwindled away.
