Garcinia Bancana Live Plant

Garcinia bancana Miq. is an impressive tropical fruit tree native to Southeast Asia and was originally identified on Bangka Island, situated between Sumatra and Borneo. This remarkable species belongs to the Clusiaceae family and is valued for its edible fruits, ornamental appearance, and ecological importance in tropical forests.

In its natural habitat, the tree grows as a mid-canopy species and can attain heights of up to 37 meters, developing a sturdy trunk that may reach 57 cm in diameter. The plant produces a characteristic yellow latex and features glossy, opposite leaves with delicate venation, contributing to its attractive appearance.

These are followed by round, fleshy fruits measuring approximately 26 mm in diameter. As they mature, the fruits undergo a striking color transformation, changing from green to shades of yellow, pink, or deep purple. Inside, the seeds are enclosed within a soft white aril that is edible and enjoyable. The fruits are appreciated for their refreshing flavor, which combines pleasant acidity with a tangy tropical character. The fruits can be consumed fresh and may also be used in juices, preserves, desserts, and other fruit-based preparations
