Newly discovered species found in areas near Manas National Park, Assam. Considered rare, known from very few individuals near a rivulet. The tree reaches 15 meters tall. Arrangement of flowers on axillary short spikes.
Stamens arranged on a convex disc. Female flowers have a specific number and arrangement of staminodes. 2–5 female flowers fascicled at nodes against solitary flowers.
Fruits: Orange-yellow when ripe. Exhibits a juicy sweet-sour mixed flavor. Different exudate color (greenish-yellow, not yellowish). Varied arrangement of female flowers and ovaries.
Culinary and Medicinal Potential:
The rind of Garcinia pedunculata Roxb. fruit, a related species, is a source of hydroxy citric acid (HCA). HCA is characterized as an anti-obesity agent.
