General Information:
Evergreen tree with more or less horizontal branches and a dense pyramidal crown. Can grow 8 to 15 meters tall.
Harvested from the wild and cultivated for its edible fruit and dyestuff.Also known as yellow mangosteen or kandis.
The thin-skinned yellow fruit is edible with a pleasant, aromatic sour acid taste. Can be eaten fresh, used in sherbets, jams, curries, vinegars, or as a flavoring in other foods.
The fruit is antiscorbutic, cholagogue, cooling, emollient, and demulcent.
Health Benefits:
Contains xanthones, benzophenones, flavonoids, isocoumarins, and depsidones. Activity includes antidiabetic, antioxidant, nerve growth factor, cytotoxicity, and antimicrobial.
Traditionally used in medicines for treating diarrhea, dysentery, nausea, and vomiting. Used to dispel worms and remove food toxins in traditional medicine.
