Common Names: Fuzzy Abiu, Abiu Piloso, Abiurana, Cabo-de-machado
General Information:
Very rare and fast-growing Abiu variety found in the Brazilian cerrado.
Commonly known as abiurana, abiu-piloso, and Cabo-de-Machado.
Sweeter and denser than normal Abiu.
Fruits are slightly ovoid, about 5cm long, and 4cm in diameter.
Fuzz on the fruit helps prevent fruit flies from stinging them.
Medicinal Uses:
Research has been conducted on Pouteria torta, and it was found to have α-amylase inhibitory activity.
Inhibition of α-amylase activity can help reduce post-prandial blood glucose levels.
The epicarp (outer skin) of the fruit showed high α-amylase inhibitory capacity.
