Plant Type

This little-known Eugenia species is a rare treasure from Brazil's Atlantic Forest and was formerly classified under the genus Calycorectes. Due to its limited natural distribution and declining habitat, it is considered at risk of extinction, making its cultivation and conservation increasingly important.

Growing as a small tree that typically reaches only 4–5 meters in height, this species is well suited for home gardens, urban landscapes, and restoration projects. Despite producing fruits with relatively little pulp, the flavor is pleasantly enjoyable, and the tree is known for bearing abundant crops when in season.

Its fruits are highly attractive to birds and other wildlife, making the species valuable not only for fruit enthusiasts but also for promoting biodiversity in cultivated areas. Because of its ecological importance and rarity, it is an excellent candidate for reforestation and conservation planting programs wherever suitable conditions exist.

This species is relatively easy to cultivate and adapts well to both full sun and partial shade. It performs best in fertile, moisture-retentive soils with good drainage and benefits from regular watering during establishment. Under favorable conditions, young plants can begin producing fruit within just 2 to 3 years after planting.
