This charming dwarf Eugenia species is native to Santa Catarina, Brazil, and is highly valued for its compact growth habit and attractive appearance. Reaching only about 5–6 feet in height, it is an excellent choice for small gardens, patios, and container growing.
The tree produces small, round fruits measuring approximately 1.5–2 cm in diameter. The fruits develop a deep purple skin with a slight fuzziness and contain juicy yellowish-white flesh. According to growers, the flavor is similar to that of Eugenia ligustrina—sweet, enjoyable, and notably free of astringency, making it pleasant to eat fresh.
Its dense foliage of small leaves gives the plant outstanding ornamental value throughout the year. The fruits are highly appreciated fresh and can also be used to prepare jellies, juices, ice creams, and other homemade treats.
