Tree species in the family Combretaceae Can grow 10 - 40 meters tall. Straight, cylindrical bole, unbranched for up to half the height of the tree. Native to E. Asia - Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, New Guinea, and northern Australia, Edible fruit commonly gathered from the wild for local use. Timber is a major exportable hardwood in New Guinea. Provides medicines and materials for local use, Cultivated as a fruit crop on a home garden scale in the Philippines. Sometimes used for avenue plantings, Fruits can be eaten raw or boiled and made into jam. Fleshy fruit has a sweet, sour flavor.
