General Information: Aglaia Roxburghii is an evergreen shrub or small tree from the Meliaceae family, typically growing 5 to 10 meters tall, occasionally reaching up to 20 meters. It is native to various regions in East Asia, including India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, New Guinea, Australia, and the western Pacific. The tree is valued for both its timber and edible fruits, with a distinctive droopy leaf appearance.
Fruit Description: The fruit is small, measuring up to 20mm in length and 15mm in width, containing up to 2 seeds. The thin, white, gelatinous flesh around the seed is edible and has a delicious sweet acid flavor. This fruit is consumed raw.
Traditional Uses: In Ayurveda, the fruits are reported to have astringent and cooling properties. They are recommended for treating inflammations and febrile complaints. Additionally, the seeds are said to be useful in the treatment of painful micturition.
