A spectacular and very rare, palm-like, sparsely branched shrub or small tree to about 4 m tall, native to tropical forests in the western Andes of Colombia between 800 and 1300 m with long, undivided leaves. The fruits ripen to an orange color, and are caulifloras, forming on the trunk like Jabotciaba. The fruits shell is firm, and inside there is a delicious gelatinous very sweet pulp.
