Chop-Chopa/Orange Yellow Mangosteen Live Plant (Garcinia kydia)

Garcinia kydia is a rare and lesser-known fruit tree native to Northeast India. However, it isn't limited to Assam alone—it can be found across the entire Northeast region and as far as the Andaman Islands. The inner juicy pulp of its vibrant yellow fruit can be eaten fresh, and it encloses the seeds inside. Like most Garcinia species, its flavor profile is dominated by a pleasant, Very sweet-and-sour taste.

Beyond fresh consumption, it can be made into juices and various value-added products. It also possesses significant medicinal value—in powdered form, it is used as a remedy for diabetes. Additionally, its rind can serve as an excellent substitute for Malabar Tamarind.
