Blue Guaquiea a wild relative of the jaboticaba which was only recently discovered in the Brazilian Cerrado - a highly unique and biodiverse habitat with many amazing fruit species! It was known as the Blue Gauquiea or Myrciaria sp. This species represent a perfect intersection of desirable characteristics for home growers - it is beautiful, drought tolerant, cold hardy, dwarf and precocious, flowering as young as 3 years of age.
The fruit are large relative to the standard jaboticaba and are blueish purple, and said to be even more delicious than jaboticaba! This plant caused quite a store when it was introduced The fruit is sweet and slightly acidic, some people claim it is one of the best-tasting Myrciaria. Plants have begun flowering at as little as 4 years old.
