General Information:
Origin:Indigenous to Mexico, Central America, and Colombia. The fruit is often referred to as Black Sapota or Persimmons of the Nigeria species.
Any soft, edible fruit is popularly called a "sapote." Black sapote has a tomato-like appearance. The skin turns from olive to deep yellow-green when ripe.
The pulp is white and inedible when unripe but transforms into a flavor, color, and texture often compared to chocolate pudding when ripe. Ripe fruit is described as having "the flavor and consistency of chocolate pudding."
