Sweet Acerola Cherry /Malpighia Emarginata is a tropical fruit-bearing shrub or small tree in the family Malpighiaceae. Common names include Guarani cherry, Barbados cherry, West Indian cherry, and wild crepe myrtle. After three years, the tree or shrub produces significant numbers of bright red drupes 1-3 cm in diameter. Drupes contain three triangular seeds. The drupes are juicy and very high in vitamin C and other nutrients. Acerola Cherry is native to Mexico to N. Colombia.
