Garcinia parvifolia is an evergreen tree native to E. Asia - Malaysia. It is a very popular fruit in Brunei, where it is commonly gathered from the wild. The tree is also cultivated, mainly in gardens and especially in SE Asia, as a fruit crop. The fruit can be eaten raw or cooked. It has a juicy, white pulp with a delicious sweet-tart, sour flavour. It is highly esteemed in Borneo. The fruit is eaten with Spanish pepper, soya and other material. Young fruits are sliced into wedge-shaped pieces, dried and used as a sour-flavoured condiment. The yellow fruit is about the size of a cherry. The dried rind of the fruit is highly esteemed in southeast Asia, where it is considered to be an essential flavouring for curries and other dishes.
