Alangium salviifolium, commonly known as Ankol, produces edible fruits. These fruits are small, spherical berries, typically ranging from 1.3 to 1.6 cm long, and can be violet to deep purple in color. They are harvested in the summer (April-June). While they have a slightly astringent and acidic taste, they are considered a good source of antioxidants, and are also known to have medicinal properties, particularly in Ayurvedic medicine.
The most common name for Alangium salviifolium is Sage-leaved Alangium.Other common names include Ankol and Ankoli.It's also known as Dhela in some regions.In the Hindi language, it's also called Akol.In Tamil, it's Alingi, Alinji, or Alingilai.In Telugu, it's Ankolamu, Udugu, or Nalla Uduga.
