The Kinnow is a high yield mandarin hybrid cultivated extensively in the wider Punjab region of India and Pakistan. It is a hybrid of two citrus cultivars — 'King' (Citrus nobilis) × 'Willow Leaf' (Citrus × deliciosa) — first developed by Howard B. Frost, at the University of California Citrus Experiment Station.
It has a shiny leathery bright orange peel with the luscious juicy flesh within. The kinnow flesh is highly sweet, juicy, tangy and citrusy in flavour. Kinnow is mostly used to extract juice and consumed fresh. The skin of the kinnow can be easily peeled and the fruit itself has high juice content, which is rich in vitamin C. The kinnow tree has an ability to bear as many as 100 fruits and is highly productive and is also grown in large agricultural farms as the base crop.
